[This time he took a serious beating. His whole body hurts from the impacts of the wyvern's tail and the ground. Regardless, he forces himself to stay conscious and get back up (which is a huge struggle at this point). His head is spinning and hammering with pain, but seeing Rider fall after ducking away from the wyvern's strike gives him new strength. He needs to reach her before it takes her--!!
And then she calls out her proposal.]
A pact?
[In theory, he knows about the Master-Servant dynamic, but he never once considered that he might become a Master. There's no time to be surprised for long, though. They don't have any other chances.
It's sheer luck for them that the wyvern, just as it wants to grab Rider, hears an especially loud and alarmed scream from its downed partner. As it turns around it sees that the lava lizards are approaching the other wyvern in greedy anticipation of its death. The flightless wyvern, not actually about to die, finally manages to deftly push itself up on its feet, menacingly spreads it damaged wings and screeches a warning, but its fire can't harm the lizards, so its peer turns away from the battered Rider and Hijikata to soar over to where the lizards are encroaching on the other, roaring a warning.
Hijikata exhales in relief. This may just win him enough time to make it over to Rider! He limps to her side, much more slowly than he wants to, despite pushing himself. Shit, she's glowing from her wounds... is she going to disappear?]
