[ This is not...this is not how he wanted this to go. He hears Nen and Wolfwood speaking but there's a thrumming in his ears as his body tries to fight off the poison now coursing through his veins. After a few more seconds his hearing is just filled with the deep, steady, intakes of his own breath as that unfamiliar wave of heat slowly creeps into every part of his body. Independents like himself and Vash shouldn't feel this at all but the heat settling in on his cheeks is new and uncomfortable. So this poison can even override plant physiology? Dangerous. He hates it as it poses a real threat to himself and Vash's safety.

He knew Nen shouldn't have called Vash, thankfully he had gotten rid of most of the scorpions in one fell swoop because he knew Vash would've thrown himself into enemy lines if he hadn't. The Punisher being with him is unsurprising as well, given his task, though he wishes the other wasn't here given the situation. His markings are still glowing brightly in the desert sun and his flushed look is definitely concerning, as are his deep, steady, breaths. The hand on his back makes him tense a little, not entirely used to the touch of someone he can't see but hears. He immediately recognizes Vash's voice even through the poisoned and essence'd blood state he's in though and something in that tensed posture relaxes almost instinctually. He doesn't respond for a few seconds, another sign that something is indeed very wrong, but when he finally does it's in a barely discernible volume with a questioning tone behind it. ]
You came.

[ Is he hallucinating or is this real? He might let out a scoff because Knives is still going through it as that poison and Nen's blood is still hitting him pretty hard. Vash actually came to help him? He can hardly believe what he's seeing right now even if his vision is getting a bit blurred on the edges but, no, that's definitely Vash next to him. He's not sure whether he should laugh or not at the whole thing. Unbelievable.

Funny how things here work so different from that in No Man's Land. It's both infuriating and comforting, though somehow it lends itself to being more infuriating??, to know that Vash will come running to his aid if need be. And boy does he need it because he will literally sink to the ground as his legs finally give out on him. He is totally fine, nothing to worry about. ]
