You'd be surprised. Dragon Slayers have beaten God Slayers before, and my first fight with Chelia ended in a draw. God Slaying magic is inherently stronger, but the skill of the wizard matters too.

I'm going to be focusing on acting as a sparring partner more than anything. There are some people who could act as an effective trainer for someone with a specialty as broad as "magic," but I'm not one of them.
